003: Part 9

by CM Towns

It was a busy day thus far. Kid Victory arrived at the prison at 10 am. Left at 11 am. Was home at a little after 12 in the afternoon. Met up with SubHuman and Mr. Monster at a little after 1. Between then and 3 they abducted some gangsters, drove them out to the stick, got some info. The team split up with Kid Victory’s teammates going to canvas locations where gun sales while Kid Victory himself got a ride down to San March. There he picked up a collapsible mini Victory Cycle and had a meeting with one of the shot callers in the Oro Familia-the local gang.
The meeting went as well as a meeting like that could go. While he did not approve of the Oro Familia they tried their best to stay out of the way of the big name threats, had a power structure that dealt with soldiers getting out of line, and liked to keep to their own. Kid Victory banked on this to help him out. The discussion with one Rogelio took place at a local park. Victory walked past his men and the two were left alone by a table to have their talk. Rogelio let him know a few things-most important of which was that they had a time frame. Something would be happening by between ten and two in the morning and they wanted all the gangs to flood downtown Kirby City and start rioting. He also mentioned that there might be things happening before that time but was not sure. Rogelio was reluctant to divulge those detail but Kid Victory alerted him to Mr. Ash being involved and the possibility of Cektic being in town.
The other details Kid Victory got were minor; where they bought their guns, how they were being contacted, and the address of a known dealer who had dealt Reese. From there Kid Victory hit up the dealers house, after a brief scuffle with the man who went by Low, he got nothing of interest out of him. Kid Victory let him go, checked in with the Professor and met up with SubHuman and Mr. Monster just outside the city. By the time he got there it was a quarter after 4.

The pair did not get much of anything in there search other than checking out a couple security videos and a partial license plate. When they called in to the Professor to assist on that. Traffic cams near the site of the gun sales she could get into did not have quality shots of the vehicle. With little to go on the team decided to return to the Intelligence Hub and discuss possible strategies.
“This royally sucks,” SubHuman said before cussing as he walked out the storage room. Monster followed and behind him Kid Victory.
“Did you all clean your boots?” Professor asked. They nodded. “Use the air spray?” They nodded. “Good. Team, this is Vidya-Vidya, team.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you all,” she shook hands with SubHuman first, followed to Mr. Monster. When Vidya shook Kid Victory’s and said, “Obviously we met before. Don’t worry I’m not going to be crazy ecstatic again.”
“Thanks for that. How are you settling in?” Kid Victory said.
“I’m just checking the police chatter and the camera’s Professor has me monitoring,” she replied.
“Good. Thanks for chipping in,” Kid Victory said.
“No problem. Anything to help,” she replied.
Kid Victory shook his head and said, “If you’ll excuse me.”
Kid Victory walked over with Professor to the fridge while Mr. Monster and SubHuman talked to Vidya.
“Things are not clicking,” Kid Victory said.
“We verified Mr. Ash and we know the vehicle we are looking for. I have forwarded this information and hopefully we can piggyback on the feds search,” she said.
“It’s going to happen tonight,” he said.
“Possibly. There is a county wide curfew in effect at ten. The cops have checkpoints up, a lot of random searches, plus the National Guard is moving in as we speak. Mr. Ash might strike in that time but getting the riot into the swing of things would be incredibly hard,” Professor explained.
“Mr. Ash can pull it off. He’s been planning this for a few months now.”
“We should call the others,” Professor suggested.
   “No.”
   “We need to.”
“We still got some time and according to Elijah the others would be available around the time we would need them anyway. Plus Sprite’s staying behind, so she could be able to assist us quicker,” Kid Victory explained.
   “So what’s next?” asked Professor.
Kid Victory thought about it. While he and the Professor thought next moves SubHuman and Mr. Monster were talking with Vidya at her workstation.
“Its not all fun and games. Most the time we’re in our secret base playing pool, watching movies, and bored outta our minds,” SubHuman said.
“More so than others,” Mr. Monster added.
“Are the others back at base?” Vidya asked.
   “Yes,” Mr. Monster lied.
“We might be seeing them later,” SubHuman said.
“So you guys have been playing detective all day? How is that?” asked Vidya.
“Being masked vigilantes does present both problems and benefits. Still, it has been tiring,” Mr. Monster said.
“At this point all we can really do is find some random thugs and hit them until they give us a useful tips. Which we have done and that didn’t pan out,” SubHuman said.
“If we were dressed like Bats we might have been more effective,” Mr. Monster joked and Vidya laughed.
“So, Vidya, any news?” SubHuman asked.
“Nothing from what I have seen or heard. I’ve listened to the chatter and most of it is just arresting suspicious people with illegal firearms. The camera’s we’re plugged into have not shown much of anything,” she answered.
“So has the lack of movement broken your excitement for the work?” wondered SubHuman.
“Not even. I am dedicated to helping you guys kick some serious ass,” she replied.
“Got to love that enthusiasm,” SubHuman said. “So they have a screening process for this gig?”
“I got a message from Kid Victory saying he was looking for an assistant. Thought it was a joke until he showed up randomly at my house and spoke for a couple minutes. I think I freaked him out,” Vidya said.
“We have not had one of those moments, yet,” SubHuman said.
“Okay guys, we got little to go on right now so I think we’ll call for a late lunch break,” Kid Victory said.
“So we just wait?” Mr. Monster asked.
“Not exactly. We’re taking maybe thirty to forty-five minutes to chill out, eat some food. Discuss what little we know and what we can do,” Kid Victory said.
“There’s not much food in the fridge,” Professor said.
“Then we order pizza. We’ll get some wings with it, stuff ourselves in front of the news, talk superheroics, let the feds gather information and then we get back out there and handle business,” he directed.
“I could probably eat a whole pizza by myself,” Monster said.
“Then we’ll get four. Let’s order, all I’ve had today was a ham sandwich,” Kid Victory said rubbing his stomach.
